Practical Data Skills: Find Open Data Online
What You’ll Learn:
Open Science & Scholarship - Discover practical skills that empower you to contribute meaningfully to open science —making your work more accessible, equitable, and impactful.
Practical Data Skills: Gain practical data skills through short, interactive lessons.
One topic will be explored per session. Topics include:
- Organizing Files and Folders: Learn how to keep your files tidy and easy to navigate.
- Creating ReadMe Files: Create ReadMe files to document your data and research processes.
- Pre-Registering Your Study: Learn how and why pre-registering your study with Open Science Framework registries (https://osf.io/registries) increases the transparency and the credibility of your research.
- Using ORCID iDs: Help yourself and others properly receive credit for work (including data) and streamline connections across various platforms.
- Best Data Management Practices: Learn strategies for managing your research data.
- Finding Open Data: Explore methods for locating and utilizing open datasets. UVic Librarian, Monique Grenier, will lead the instruction on this topic.
- Choosing the Right License: Ensure your research data is properly attributed and if appropriate open for reuse.
- Best Practices for Reproducible Research: Identify strategies to make your research reproducible.
- Depositing Data: Discover where to deposit your research data for long-term access and preservation.
- Citizen Science: Explore how everyday people can actively contribute to scientific research.
