The Digital Shoebox: Reproducibility in Research Software In-Person
Building software for longevity can be like building a brick shed on a beach: It will stand fine for a little while but soon enough, no matter how well you built it, it will slant, sink, and eventually become completely unusable or disappear altogether, because the foundation is constantly shifting. Similarly, your research code is built on libraries and an operating system that are undergoing regular updates or may be retired--they may behave differently or disappear altogether in time, and then your code can't be compiled or linked or even have anywhere to run.
In this workshop we will discuss some of the problems with reproducibility with respect to software and some strategies for increasing the lifespan of your software-dependent research. This workshop will include a hands-on component where we will, among other things, build an application container.
Command-line skills are helpful for the hands-on component; please bring a laptop.
