A Zine, or Zines plural, is a mode of publication that prioritizes accessibility over material value. They are often homegrown, self-made chapbooks, flyers, booklets and folded posters that can cover topics ranging from music to politics, to fandom and more. They are characterized by their simple office supply materials and cheap print techniques. The often appropriate widely, valuing the democratization of ideas over capitalist or ego-driven authorship, resulting in the reimagining of borrowed text and images along with collective publication projects.
In this 80-minute session, participants will explore demonstrations and activities that embody the spirit of punk and DIY publication culture. This workshop aims to empower participants to embrace lowfi methods, express their ideas creatively, and recognize the potential of zines and posters as powerful tools for social and artistic activism.
