The Return of "The Vanquished Viking Gods" In-Person
Discover the beginning of the downward journey of the Viking gods from deities in Valhalla—to heroes in storybooks for Victorian children—to pedagogical figures in homeschooling lesson plans that are still in use today. This exhibition reveals the liberties Victorian storytellers took when retelling the Norse myths, the details that were added by illustrators, and the resulting visual associations that link the Victorian retellings with other mythologies and fairytales.
