Introduction to Data Management Plans (DMPs) Online

Aimed at grad students and faculty researchers, this lecture-style workshop reviews the key components of a data management plan (DMP) and offers guidance on using the DMP Assistant, a bilingual tool for preparing data management plans.

A DMP is a formal and evolving document that outlines the practices, processes, and strategies of the data you expect to acquire or generate during the course of a research project.

The Government of Canada has announced its new Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy. The policy aims to support Canadian research excellence by promoting data management practices. By Spring 2022, the agencies will identify the initial set of funding opportunities subject to the DMP requirement.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the importance of good research data management

  • Be familiar with creating and writing plans with the DMP Assistant

  • Be familiar with key data management planning considerations
