Stories of the Holocaust: Local Memory & Transmission

Stories of the Holocaust: Local Memory & Transmission Online

Please join us for the online launch of a newly created digital exhibit featuring ten stories told by local community members whose families were devastated by the Holocaust. This semester, students in the Holocaust and Memory Studies course offered by the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Victoria worked one-on-one with community members from Victoria, Vancouver, and Saltspring Island to discuss and present unique stories of the Holocaust in the form of an online exhibit. In a time of physical distancing and social isolation brought on by the Covid19 pandemic, these acts of intergenerational transmission became particularly meaningful. The exhibit centres not only on the actual stories themselves but also on notions of relationship building, storytelling and transmission, as well as memory work, intergenerational trauma, and active remembering.
