Introduction to Podcasting In-Person

Are you a UVic student, staff, or faculty member and want to learn more about podcasting? If so, then this hands-on workshop will give you an introduction to podcasting, using your laptop, and teach you to edit your podcast using Audacity—a free, cross-platform audio editing program.

In this workshop, participants will learn about the following:

  • the key features of an ongoing podcast or a one-off podcast
  • best practices for interviewing people or panels of people for podcasts
  • where to borrow high-quality audio recording equipment on campus (UVic)
  • the pros and cons of free and paid podcast publishing services

In this workshop, participants will learn to do the following:

  • record high-quality audio using a USB-connected microphone
  • trim and split recorded audio
  • create voiceovers
  • fade audio in and out in separate audio tracks
  • use a free podcasting publishing service
  • publish a stand-alone audio interview or recording
  • OPTIONAL: use Zoom to record remote interviews

Note: this workshop will be held in person

To install Audacity on your computer, follow the instructions for your system (Windows, Mac, or Linux) on the workshop's Pre-Workshop Activities page.

Note that UVic staff members may need to contact UVic's Computer Help Desk (helpdesk@uvic.ca) to have Audacity installed for them on a work computer.
