Event Description: Explore introductory concepts in digital conservation by working with early Canadian computer graphics software.  Developed back in the 1980s, Microstar Graphics Editor enabled users to create a unique form of computer graphics optimized for delivery over low-bandwidth networks. Working hands on in an emulated late 1980s PC environment, workshop participants will create simple graphic images that will be combined into an interactive presentation for display both on period computing hardware and as an emulation on the web.

1. Create simple computer graphics using 35-year-old software
2. Contrast the affordances of the Microstar software with your experience of modern graphics software
3. Understand basic concepts of computer emulation
4. Explain to others how to transfer data between different generations of computing hardware
5. Contrast real 1980s-era PC hardware with its emulated equivalent
6. Understand basic concepts of emulation on the web
