SUMMARY:Lasting Impressions: East Asian Seal Art Across Time and Media 2
DESCRIPTION:Why learn about seal art?\n\nSeals have been used for centuries
in many parts of the world but have gained popularity and even become
necessities around multiple areas of Asia. Today\, seals are still used in
several countries and can hold the same legal power as a signature. Master
caligraphers and seal carvers traditionally created these functional pieces
of art by hand in different materials such as stone and hard woods. Today\,
only a few of these Masters remain\, but technology\, while never replacing
the artists and their work\, can make this art more accessible to more
people.\n\nNote: This workshop will be held in person.\n\nLearning
objectives \n\nDuring this workshop attendees will learn:\n\n\n	What a seal
is and their function\n	Which materials are used for traditional and
technology-made seals\n	Useful 2D or 3D design software for laser
applications\n	How to convert designs and import them in the appropriate
software for laser cutting\n	How to create and modify 2D designs for
engraving\n	How to export designs to .svg file format\n\n\nDownload and
Install Inkscape here: https://inkscape.org/release/ (Note: If you are a
staff member at UVic and are wanting to install software on a work
computer\, you may require system admin permission to do so.)
