Podcasting Workshop and Q&A Session In-Person

Are you a UVic student, staff, faculty, or community member who wants to learn more than the basics about podcasting? If so, then this studio-style, hands-on workshop is for you. You will have the option to ask your podcasting questions in advance, so that they can be answered during the workshop.

We have extended this workshop time to 2 hours, so that we can work through more questions and responses. As an option, we may visit the podcast studio in McPherson Library (room 051).

Just like our Introduction to Podcasting workshop, you will use your laptop and the cross-platform audio editing program Audacity to record and edit your podcast.

To get the most out of this workshop, we ask the following:

  • Bring your laptop and your laptop's charging cable to the workshop.
  • Have Audacity installed on your computer: follow the instructions for your system (Windows, Mac, or Linux) on the Introduction to Podcasting workshop's Pre-Workshop Activities page.
    • Note that UVic staff members may need to contact UVic's Computer Help Desk (helpdesk@uvic.ca) to have Audacity installed for them on a work computer.
  • That you already have some experience working in Audacity. For example, you have taken our Introduction to Podcasting workshop, or have a basic working knowledge of Audacity.
  • This is not mandatory, as we will answer any questions that come up during the session, but we encourage you to show up with some questions in mind. For example, how do I improve the sound quality, or richness, of my voice? How do I remove an annoying background buzz from a recording? What tools or techniques work well for outdoor recordings?

For this workshop, we will cap attendance at 10 people. Registered participants will receive an email prior to the workshop, asking if they want to submit any podcasting questions in advance. We also encourage you to bring in any in-process podcasts you are working on, so that we can share our challenges and solutions in the spirit of group learning. We will use your in-progress work, or questions, or both, to guide the workshop, and we will share our responses with the group.

We will keep this workshop informal and fun, and see where our questions take us.

Note: this workshop will be held in person
