RStudio Summary Statistics Introduction Online
Note: This workshop is online only.
R is a free, open-source software and programming language for statistical analysis that allows for reproducible statistical analysis, including advanced methods, as well as the production of publication-quality graphs. In this workshop, you will learn the basics of how to use R and RStudio to create simple objects in R, import data frames, and perform basic summary statistics. This workshop is aimed at new R users who have some familiarity with tabular data and basic statistics (for example, using Excel), but have never used R to implement data analysis. Once you’ve completed this session you’ll be able to:
- Install and set up R & RStudio on your computer
- Use the RStudio interface to write and execute basic R commands
- Describe the basic data types and data structures in R
- Create and use vectors in R
- Import and use data frames in R
- Generate descriptive statistics for a data set using R
Instructions for installing the software needed for this workshop can be found in the pre-workshop activities: https://uviclibraries.github.io/rstudio/pre-workshop.html (Note: If you are a staff member at UVic and are wanting to install software on a work computer, you may require system admin permission to do so.)
