What You’ll Learn:

Open Science & Scholarship - Open Science (or also known as Open Scholarship) is a broad movement to make research across disciplines more transparent, accessible, and collaborative. It’s about more than just making scientific knowledge accessible, it’s about transforming how that knowledge is produced.

Practical Data Skills - Gain practical data skills through short, interactive lessons.

One topic will be explored per session. Topics include:

• Open Science 101 - Discover practical skills that empower you to contribute meaningfully to open science —making your work more accessible, equitable, and impactful.
• Organizing Files and Folders: Learn how to keep your files tidy and easy to navigate.UVic Librarian, Sarah McGill, will lead this session.
• Citizen Science: Explore how everyday people can actively contribute to scientific research. 
• Data Privacy 101: Start building responsible research habits by learning the basics of working with sensitive data. 
• Pre-Registering Your Study: Learn how and why pre-registering your study with Open Science Framework registries (https://osf.io/registries) increases the transparency and the credibility of your research.
• Using ORCID iDs: Help yourself and others properly receive credit for work (including data) and streamline connections across various platforms.
• Finding Open Data: Explore methods for locating and utilizing open datasets.
